I first got started in textiles when I was very young in Tennessee. My Aunt Nell taught me how to sew and make quilts to escape the summer heat. I have made hundreds of quilts since and this was the beginning of my career in textiles.
I’ve come a long way from making quilts with Aunt Nell. I used the passion that she instilled in me to pursue a degree in textiles at the Rhode Island School of Design. Sewing, dyeing fabrics, weaving, knitting, quilting, and designing fabrics; you name it, I practiced some form of textiles at one point or another. To me there is nothing quite like what occurs with a mix of threads, paints, and fabric. My brain is constantly turning with creative ideas for using textiles in new ways.
